Elering has signed a contract with AS Connecto, the winner of a public procurement for the renovation of the 110-kilovolt Risti substation on the Harku-Lihula-Sindi line, for approximately 1.5 million euros.

The establishment of the new substation in the same location as the exiting Risti substation is the latest step toward building the third interconnection between Estonia and Latvia.

In the course of the work at Risti substation, operating since 1962 and now completely outdated, a new 110-kilovolt switchgear system with relay protection and automation equipment will be built. The construction work will be completed next summer.

The establishment of the third Estonia-Latvia interconnection is an important prerequisite for synchronizing the Baltic states with continental Europe’s electrical system. As part of the project, Elering will establish new lines from Harku to Sindi and from Kilingi-Nõmme to the Estonian-Latvian border. In addition, renovation and electrical work will take place in five extra substations – Harku, Riisipere, Kullamaa, Sindi and Kilingi-Nõmme. The new interconnection is scheduled for completion in 2020.
