In August, the volume of natural gas imports increased by 12 per cent in a year-on-year comparison, reaching 204.2 gigawatt-hours. The smallest amount of natural gas that reached Estonia over a twenty-four-hour period was 2.6 gigawatt-hours and the largest amount was 8.5 gigawatt-hours.

In August, the amount of domestic transmission service rendered by Elering increased by 12.2 per cent in a year-on-year comparison and totalled 204.0 gigawatt-hours. The reserve capacity of the transmission pipeline decreased by 10 per cent in a yearly calculation, and stood at 42.2 gigawatt-hours by the end of the month.

Gas transit took place in the direction of Russia to Latvia through the gas transit pipeline that passes through southeast Estonia, to a total of 2,295 gigawatt-hours. In August 2016, the amount of transit was twice as much, totalling 4,586 gigawatt-hours.

In August, there were no transactions of the Lithuanian GET Baltic gas exchange in the Estonian market area. The average price was 17.33 euros per megawatt-hour in Latvia and  16.93 euros per megawatt-hour in Lithuania. The average system price of the Baltics was 16.93 euros per megawatt-hour. The comparable price on the Finnish Kaasupörssi was 20.36 per megawatt-hour.

The Inčukalns underground gas storage facility in Latvia was filled with natural gas within the amount of 2,720 gigawatt-hours. No gas was pumped to the gas transmission network. 30.8 per cent of the capacity of the gas storage facility was reached by the end of August.
