According to Elering, Estonian electricity production reached 11.2 terawatt-hours last year, which is eight per cent more compared to 2016.

Renewable energy production increased by 15 per cent, reaching 1.6 terawatt-hours and the amount of electricity produced from other sources increased by seven per cent, reaching 9.6 terawatt-hours.

In 2017, electricity consumption totalled 8.5 terawatt-hours, increasing by one per cent in a year-on-year comparison.

Estonian electricity energy balance was in surplus by 2.7 terawatt-hours last year. The surplus was two terawatt-hours in the previous year.

During the year, 2.3 terawatt-hours of electricity reached Estonia via cross-border electricity connections and five terawatt-hours of electricity was exported from Estonia. As a result, the transit that moved through Estonia reached 2.2 terawatt-hours.

During the year, 13.2 terawatt-hours of electricity moved through the transmission network managed by Elering.

In the Baltics as a whole, electricity production increased by nine per cent last year, reaching 21 terawatt-hours and consumption by one per cent, reaching 26.1 terawatt-hours. Estonia’s share in production was 53 per cent and in consumption was 33 per cent.
