Elering and Elektrilevi, having held joint procurements, entered into contracts with Merko Infra AS for building the Kiini 110 kilovolt substation and expanding the Paldiski 110 kilovolt substation. The substations will be powering the compression stations of Balticconnector, the gas interconnection between Estonia and Finland.

Kiini substation in Viljandi County will power the Puiatu compression station while the Paldiski substation will power the Paldiski compression station. In both regions, this work will also result in increasing the security of supply of electricity as the transformers of the substations are also used for supplying the end-users in addition to operating the Balticconnector compression stations.

A total of four tenders were submitted for the joint public procurements organised by Elering and Elektrilevi. Merko Infra AS was the successful tenderer in both procurements. Elering will construct the high-voltage parts in the substations and Elektrilevi will construct the medium-voltage parts.

The total cost of building the Kiini substation for Elering will be one million euros. The cost of the expansion of Paldiski substation will be 0.3 million euros. The total cost of the contracts is respectively 1.68 million euros and 0.54 million euros. The work will be completed in June 2019 in the Paldiski substation and in July 2019 in the Kiini substation.
