EstLink 2 Out of Work Due to Fault in Return Circuit
The high voltage direct current interconnection between Estonia and Finland, EstLink 2, switched off on Friday morning, August 8th 2014, at 4.35 am EET.
The preliminary analysis carried out on Friday indicates that the cause for the switch off is most likely a short-circuit in the interconnection’s return circuit.
Works related to the identification of the fault location were started immediately. On Wednesday, the representatives of the cable manufacturer Nexans Norway AS will arrive in Estonia where the exact location of the fault will be identified. After that the analysis of the possible cause and clearing time of the fault can be continued.
The EstLink 1 interconnection continues to be operational and enables 342 MW of power to be transferred from Finland to Estonia and 358 MW to be transferred from Estonia to Finland.
