Reverse auctions
Due to the end of the existing renewable energy subsidy schemes, the subsidy will be granted through reverse auctions in the future.
Currently underway is the fifth reverse auction which was announced on 02.03.2023 and where the deadline for tenders is at 17.00 on 5th September 2023. The purpose of the reverse auction is to provide the market with an additional 650 GWh of renewable energy per calendar year, produced by a new generating installation or by a new supplementary generating installation built next as an add-on to an existing generating installation, which starts work after the winner of the tender is determined.
The conditions of and procedure for the aforementioned reverse auction are described in the regulation „Conditions of and Procedure for Reverse Auctions Organised for Generating Energy from Renewable Energy Sources and in Efficient Co-Generation Process“ , in the Electricity Market Act and in the reverse auction announcement.
The first three reverse auctions were organized in 2019 – 2021 and carried out on the basis of subsection § 596 (1) of the Electricity Market Act. The first three reverse auctions were intended for installations with a capacity between 50 kW and 1 MW and the objective of auctions was to provide the market each year with an additional five gigawatt-hours (5 GWh) of electricity generated from renewable energy sources. The fourth reverse auction in 2021 was carried out on the basis of subsection § 594 (1) of the Electricity Market Act and as a result of the fourth reverse auction, the winners of the tender will be supported to produce 540 GWh of renewable energy per year from the start of production.
