Elering has developed an interactive map application for presenting available connection capacities in electricity transmission network substations, saving connection process time for both applicants and Elering.

“Up till now, potential applicants had to ask Elering about connection capacities in specific substations, but with the help of this new application, it is possible to study approximate free connection capacities across Estonia even before contacting Elering,” explained Taavi Veskimägi, Chairman of the Board of Elering.

The application located at https://www.elering.ee/en/available-connection-capacities presents connection capacities for which there is no need to enhance the transmission capacity of transmission lines and when potential connection will take place in one of the Elering substations. To study connection possibilities in various substations, you must still contact Elering. The application presents the maximum connection capacity of 50 MW for a 110 kV network and the connection capacity of up to 100 MW for a 330 kV network.

Thanks to the application, it is possible to get an overview of the current state of available connection capacities as well as of the change in capacities in coming years due to developments in the grid. At the same time, it is an informative application, and to identify the details of the desired connection and for actual connection, the potential applicant must continue to contact Elering directly and complete the connection process in the connection information system www.egle.ee.

The application of available connection capacities is part of Elering’s connection development programme, the aim of which is to make the connection to the transmission network faster, cheaper and easier. In the framework of the same programme, Elering is purchasing five sets of substation equipment for the construction of standard 110 kV connection points. Siemens OY Estonian branch office won the procurement to supply the main equipment with its 0.8-million-euro bid. In addition, Elering must find workers to construct standard connection points.

As now the connection to the transmission network takes about 30 months, in the future, the establishment of standard connection points into newer Elering’s substations could be completed twice as fast. Elering plans to achieve the total preparedness for the establishment of connection points as quickly as possible by the end of this year.
